A bet records what you are changing, why, and the measure that would tell you it worked: a baseline, a target, and a date to look again.
Setting a measure
A measure needs a target, otherwise there is nothing to judge the result against. Results cannot be due before the launch date, and an outcome cannot be recorded before the change has run — the form will stop you.
Recording the outcome
- The result against the target, and whether it was exceeded, met or missed.
- What happened, in enough detail for someone who was not there.
- What the team learned — the most valuable field in the product.
- What to do next: keep, improve, expand or stop.
Record missed targets properly. They are the records the next team needs most, because they stop the same thing being tried twice.
